Susan Mallett is a retired educator who spent 31 years as an elementary public school teacher and principal, as well as university instructor for aerospace education and student internships. In addition, she coordinated aerospace youth and teacher camps and programs for her school and community.
She has been a Civil Air Patrol (CAP) Aerospace Education Member (AEM) since 1986 and has conducted AE workshops throughout the southeast and in Egypt. Some of her honors as an educator include Alabama Principal of the Year, Alabama Elementary Teacher of the Year, National Federal Aviation Educator of the Year, Alabama Christa McAuliffe Fellow, National A. Scott Crossfield Aerospace Educator of the Year, and CAP Crown Circle Awardee. As a principal, her school was also recognized in Alabama and nationally for academic and enrichment excellence. She utilized the aerospace theme both in her classroom and in her school for over twenty years to motivate and inspire the young people to reach for the stars.
Susan is now managing the School Enrichment Program (SEP) at Civil Air Patrol's National Headquarters at Maxwell AFB, AL wherein she coordinates educational and cadet programs of CAP that are implemented in schools across the country. Her personal goal is to bring the School Enrichment Program to every state to ensure that CAP plays an important role in building a better tomorrow for America, one student at a time.
The mission of the SEP is "to partner with educational institutions, community organizations, industry, and government to educate students on the principles of effective leadership, the strength of integrity, the knowledge of aerospace and related career opportunities, and the benefits of physical fitness in preparation for life as a productive American citizen." This mission is aligned with Scott Crossfield's mission in his own life and the life for which he helped lay a firm foundation for the young people of our nation.
